CONGO: SHUTDOWN CONTRACT FOR THE NKP FPU (TOTAL E&P CONGO)

In 2020, Altrad was awarded a significant project in Congo by its client Total E&P Congo. The contract concerns the shutdown of the NKP FPU, Total's first Floating Production Unit (FPU) in Congo. This type of intervention always represents a major challenge: it involves several months of preparation (7 to be exact) for 26 days of intervention. During this period, Altrad (through its subsidiary Prezioso Congo) and Friedlander had to change large quantities of pipework and renovate a major part of the installation.

For the first time, Altrad intervened here as part of a consortium, i.e. directly in liaison with the end customer Total E&P Congo, which is a strong sign of confidence, highly prized by the Altrad Group.

The unit was shut down on 1 November 2020, for 33 "oil-to-oil" days (i.e. 4 days of availability, 26 days of work and 3 days of tests and checks). In a few figures, the project involved the erection/dismantling of 20,000 m3 of scaffolding, the application of 4,000 m2 of cladding and the installation of 500 m2 of insulation. During the month of shutdown, Altrad deployed a team of between 40 and 50 operators.

Altrad actually started the first activities on this project in June, with preliminary studies related to pipe insulation and scaffolding erection. Our teams ramped up throughout the summer to reach a peak of 40 to 50 people working in 2 shifts. And in the back office, a whole team was mobilized: a project manager, assistant site managers, scaffolding and painting supervisors, logistics specialists, HSE managers whose mission will be to ensure the safety of personnel during the work phases.

Prezioso Congo (Altrad Group) has a wealth of experience in these activities (three shutdowns in 2019-2020) and truly benefits from the confidence of its partners and customers in being able to succesfully complete this work, which calls for a strong spirit of solidarity, a great deal of humility and a good dose of courage given the scale of the task at hand.
